Loving Israel in Complicated Times & the Toronto Jewish Film Festival

DSCanadaIn his two-day visit to Toronto, NIF CEO Daniel Sokatch spoke to over 400 people about the work of New Israel Fund and its commitment to helping Israel become a state that treats all its citizens equally.

During his lecture, Loving Israel in Complicated Times, Daniel commented on the damage to the connection between North American Jews and Israel when developments in Israel challenge liberal, progressive values. He illustrated this point with examples of current anti-democratic trends in Israel in areas such as religious pluralism and minority rights. With great optimism and inspiration, Daniel described how NIF works to nurture the Israel that liberal, progressive North Americans want to support- an Israel at peace with itself, as well as its neighbors.

In addition, Daniel spoke at the Toronto Jewish Film festival on a panel titled “Who speaks for the Jewish community?” The panel followed the world premiere of Between Two Worlds, a documentary film in which Sokatch and NIF President Naomi Chazan both appear.
