join us to learn about current pressing environmental issues in Israel. NI
F welcomes Jay Shofet\, Director of the Green Environment Fund (an NIF grantee)\, to speak on the presenc
e of environmental consciousness in Israel’s social protest movement\, c
urrent ecological issues the country faces\, and how Israeli innovators ar
e spurring sustainable development techniques to combat challenges across
the globe.
The Green Environment Fund’s mission is to prom
ote environmental sustainability through equitable\, responsible and compr
ehensive environmental policies and actions\, which benefit all sectors of
Israeli society. Among other achievements\, the GEF has most recently bee
n fundamental in dramatically reshaping the Israeli government’s harmful
Planning Reform Bill\, championing the safety and rights of Israel’s en
vironment and public.
About the speaker:
\nJay Shofet is the Director of the Green Environment Fund\, a unique consortium of fu nders guided by Jewish and humanitarian values\, created in part by the NI F. Prior to his work with the GEF\, Jay served as the Director of the Reli gious Pluralism Project and of Resource Development Consultation at SHATIL \, the New Israel Fund's Empowerment and Training Center for social change organizations in Israel. He recently finished a third term on the executi ve board for the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism.

'The Inv
isible Men' tells the untold story of persecuted gay Palestinians who have
run away from their families and are now hiding illegally in Tel Aviv. Th
eir stories will be told through the film's heroes: Louie\, 32 years old\,
a gay Palestinian who has been hiding in Tel Aviv for the past 8 years\;
Abdu\, 24 years old\, who was exposed as gay in Ramallah and then accused
of espionage and tortured by Palestinian security forces\; Faris\, 23 year
s old\, who escaped to Tel Aviv from the West Bank after his family tried
to kill him. Their only chance for survival -- to seek asylum outside Isra
el and Palestine and leave their homelands forever behind.

\nTalia Sasson is former Director of the Department for Special Tasks in Israel’s State Attorney’s Office. At the request of then Prime Ministe r Ariel Sharon\, she served as special legal advisor for the government an d author of the Sasson Report on settlements and illegal outposts in the P alestinian territories. She serves on several boards including the New Isr ael Fund (NIF) and the Council for Peace and Security. She is a member of the Geneva Initiative’s steering committee.

This workshop\, led by Rabbi Davi d Rosenn\, will illustrate the power of presenting an organization from th e position of its values\, providing you with the tools to serve as an eff ective leader in New Generations' religious pluralism campaign.
\nAbout David: Rabbi David Rosenn is COO at the New Israel Fund. He is the senior manager for NIF’s day-to-day operations in North America and works with the organization’s leadership to set and execute strategy for the organization overall. Prior to joining NIF\, David served for 13 year s as the founder and Executive Director at AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corp s. A graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary\, David’s work is cent ered on efforts to build\, encourage and sustain participation in communit ies of moral courage and spiritual strength\, both in the Unites States an d in Israel. He lives in New York City.
