 y describes unfair salary disparities\, constricting gender norms or under
 -representation.</span></span></p>\n<p><span style='font-size: medium\;'><
 span style='font-family: Arial\;'>We couldn't imagine a situation where we
  would be harassed if we didn't sit at the back of the bus or were forced 
 to use a different sidewalk because of our gender. We couldn't imagine a s
 ystem that would allow\, in response to pressure from religious extremists
 \, the removal of images of women from advertisements.<br /> <br /> Yet he
 adlines describing precisely these phenomena and worse are coming out of I
 srael\, despite its notable history of women's accomplishments. Some have 
 pointed to religious extremism as a culprit in these events.  However\, g
 overnment policies and public disinterest have enabled the exclusion of wo
 men from many public spaces for decades.<br /> <br /> How do these events 
 influence the way we see ourselves as part of a global Jewish community? D
 oes it change our relationship to Israel? What is appropriate for Diaspora
