Minorities Among Minorities: Jewish Americans Challenging the Status Quo in Israel A New Generations Salon Featuring Avital Aboody and Maya Paley Tuesday, March 20 at 6:30 pm We hope you'll join us for this conversation with two alumni of the NIF/Shatil Social Justice Fellowship. During her fellowship year in Israel, Avital Aboody worked with Breaking the Silence, a non-profit that collects testimonies of former IDF soldiers who have served in the occupied territories. Maya Paley worked with an organization called ASSAF that specializes in advocacy and empowerment for the African refugee and asylum-seeking community in Israel. They’re both dynamic, articulate activists who will speak about the complexity surrounding the different minority communities that they worked with, and how these experiences in turn situated them as minorities within the American Jewish context. We are suggesting a donation of $18 for participation in this series of four salons, but we promise not to turn anyone away. |
