 ss the realities of life in Israel for its Arab citizens\, and the ways Ne
 w Israel Fund’s grantee Sikkuy is working to close gaps between Jews and
  Arabs. </p>\n<p>Sikkuy (a 'chance' or 'opportunity' in Hebrew) develops 
 projects to ensure equality in government budgets\, resource allocation\, 
 hiring policies\, land usage\, access to government services\, and more. 
  We will be joined by Sikkuy’s Arab and Jewish co-directors Ali Haider a

 ns event\, intended for people in their 20s and 30s.</strong></p>\n<p styl
 e='text-align: center\;'>In this interactive session\, Hechalutz educator 
 Zohar Avigdori will lead participants through a journey that asks what it 
 means for Israel to be a democracy.  Using the life of former Prime Minis
 ter Yitzhak Rabin as our lens\, participants will learn about the events l
 eading up to Prime Minister Rabin's assassination.  Going beyond the assa
 ssination\, we will explore the state of democracy in Israel today\, ask w
 hat does it mean for Israel to be 'the only democracy in the Middle East\,
 ' and explore the challenges that face democracy in Israel.  Participants
  will leave the session with a better understanding of the role they play 
 in ensuring that democracy is present in their lives at home and continues
  to exist at the heart of Israeli society.</p>\n<br />\n<p style='text-ali

 yle='text-align: center\;'><b>Zohar Avigdori</b>\, 31\, is a graduate of t
 he Hanoar Haoved VeHalomed youth movement and a current member of the “D
 ror Israel” movement.  He is programming coordinator for the Hechalutz 
 educational center\, which offers English-language educational experiences
  for groups of Diaspora Jewry visiting Israel\, aimed at such topics as Is
 raeli society\, the Kibbutz idea and co-existence.  Zohar is also a youth
  guide to Poland\, a facilitator for a group of Olim from English-speaking
  countries\, and a teacher to at-risk youth\, all of which seldom gives hi
 m enough time to practice his Yoga and walk his beautiful German Shepherd.
  <br /> <br /> <b>Hechalutz </b>is an Israeli non-profit educational cente
 r dedicated to educating Diaspora Jews about Cultural Judaism and Chalutzi
 ut (pioneering Zionism). Hechalutz operates within the framework of “HaM
 eorer”\, the Center for Alternative Education. Our goal is to connect Di
 aspora Jewry to Israel as the center and national home of the Jewish Peopl
 e by educating towards the timeless Zionist ideals of self-determination\,
  collective and personal responsibility\, democracy\, and justice - the va
 lues Israel was founded upon and continues to strive to embody. To this en
 d we run tours\, seminars\, workshops\, Rafsodia (raft sail on the Kinnere
 t) and other educational endeavors.  Hechalutz's style of educating is ba
 sed on dialogical learning and encourages critical thinking and the challe
 nging of participants' perceptions. All of this takes place in a friendly 
 and informal environment.</p>
