Love, Hate and the Jewish State 3.0:
What's Jewish about a Jewish State?

Thursday, June 24 at 7:00 pm at The JCC in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Ave at 76th Street, Cost $10

Do your social justice values impact the way that you relate to Israel as the Jewish state?

Social justice and Israel are often polarizing and separate conversations. Israel's Jewish character affects government policy, life-cycle events, state symbols, and everyday life for both Jews and non-Jews.

Join us for the third in a series of highly interactive, non-persuasive, open discussions with a diverse group of people in their 20s and 30s.  The program will be followed by a reception.

Hosted by Joel Chasnoff, Comedian and Author of The 188th Crybaby Brigade: A Skinny Jewish Kid from Chicago Fights Hezbollah

Israel's Democracy at a Crossroads: A Critical Conversation with Avraham Burg

Co-sponsored by Congregation Ansche Chesed and J Street NYC

Congregation Ansche Chesed, 251 West 100th Street, between Broadway and West End

Recent decisions of the Israeli government, including the introduction of anti-democratic legislation in the Knesset, as well the IDF’s response to the flotilla, has prompted a conversation about Israel’s global standing and its relationship with Jewish communities around the world.  Some Israeli voices, including Avraham Burg’s, have called for renewed, more promising Israeli political and moral leadership.  Join us in a conversation with Avraham Burg to discuss what this renewed sense of hope and leadership looks like.

Avraham Burg's career in public service began with the founding of the protest movement against the first war in Lebanon and as an activist for Peace Now. He served as the speaker of the 15th Knesset, has been an outspoken advocate of religious pluralism, and founded the Open Midrasha Center for Jewish Studies. He is the acclaimed author of God is Back and more recently of The Holocaust is Over; We Must Rise from Its Ashes.

New Israel Fund is the leading organization promoting social justice and equality for all Israelis. Learn more at www.nif.org.
