At the behest of the SHATIL-led Yachdav (Together): The Ethiopian Women's Coalition to Address Domestic Violence, Ethiopian Jewish spiritual leaders (kessim) and rabbis in Israel composed a special prayer for peace in the family. The prayer can now be seen on YouTube . On the clip, the kessim are chanting the prayer in Ge'ez (the Ethiopian liturgical language) at a national Yachdav seminar for the Ethiopian Israeli community, "No to Violence, Yes to Peace" in Rehovot in July 2008. Kessim chanting prayer at Yachdav Conference. The prayer aims to prevent domestic violence, strengthen the family unit, mutual respect and family unity. The Coalition was formed after Lemlem Tsahai became the 12h Ethiopian Israeli woman to be murdered by her husband, and her friends in SHATIL's Ethiopian Women's Empowerment courses decided to break the community taboo on this subject and act to prevent further tragedy. Three years later, they have succeeded in putting domestic violence prevention on the government and community agendas and the number of domestic violence cases has decreased significantly.
