Octogenarian activist Stella Tzur traveled by bus from Haifa to Umm El Fahm last week to stand in the rain and show support for the Arab residents as extremist anti-Arab Jews marched through the city. Tzur was one of hundreds of concerned Israeli citizens, including a delegation from NIF/SHATIL and social change activists from many organizations in the NIF family, who had come to Umm El Fahm. She held a placard saying "Fascism Shall Not Pass" and chatted with Suzan, a social worker from the Arab city. Suzan said, "You cannot imagine what it means to us that you have all made so much effort to come and show solidarity with us. It shows us that these marchers do not represent mainstream Israel." Despite a massive police presence, the firing of tear gas and a small number of stone-throwing hotheads in Umm El Fahm, the confrontation passed off with only a small number of minor injuries.
