Dateline: Social Justice Protest

Last summer one woman in a tent changed the course of a nation.  Fed up with the untenable costs of housing and consumer goods, she lodged a protest by pitching a tent in Tel Aviv. The protest quickly evolved to a massive movement attracting Israelis from across the political and social spectrum. NIF – the only organization outside Israel to support the movement - was there from the beginning.  But as with all innovative grassroots initiatives, the key question becomes what next?

NIF is putting our more than 30 years of experience to work.  After the protests, NIF organized public hearings and other events to keep the momentum going.  In a campaign called “Moving from the Tents to the Knesset” NIF and key partners are working to ensure that social justice remains a legislative priority and that promises made are promises kept.
