Just last week, the new “Nakba” bill was introduced in the Knesset - the latest chapter in a series of worrisome threats to Israeli democracy.  If enacted, the law, proposed by Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beitenu (Israel is our Home) party, would make it illegal for Israel’s Arabs to mark Independence Day as the Nakba (catastrophe) for the Palestinian people. The New Israel Fund is working hard to ensure that threats to basic freedoms of expression and democracy are soundly defeated.
