SHATIL Day at Ben Gurion University’s Social Work School

|

January 10, 2008

The social work department at Ben Gurion University of the Negev invited SHATIL to present its work to first year social work students in a day long seminar at the end of December.  SHATIL Be’er Sheva’s Shira Eytan introduced SHATIL in a creative manner by asking each participant to answer the question, “What motivates me to act?” and to formulate an SMS expressing the vision of the organization in which they do their field work. Through these, Shira presented Shatil and NIF’s vision. The 50 students then split into four groups -- each led by a SHATIL staffer -- on Arab society in the Negev, social justice, the environment, and youth, which allowed for dialogue between SHATIL staffers and the students. Afterward, each group presented its experience in a lively, emotional session. Students kept SHATIL staff after the end of the seminar with their questions and enthusiasm. This is one of a growing number of SHATIL efforts to interest the student population in working for social change.
