SHATIL Presents Environmental Problems to Members of Knesset

Life and Environment's presentation of its 2007 report, Environmental Injustice and the Urban Environment, to the Knesset on November 6th focused on air and water pollution, lack of sanitation infrastructure and irresponsible environmental practices on the part of Israeli factories.  SHATIL played a central role in researching and writing sections of the report.

SHATIL presented its findings to a room of nearly 100 concerned citizens and members of Knesset.  Highlighting hazardous industrial pollution, complete lack of infrastructure, sanitation, sidewalks, street lamps and even entry-ways to two unrecognized neighborhoods in the mixed cities Ramle and Acre, SHATIL emphasized the intimate connection between environmental injustice and social gaps.  This sentiment was shared by MK Dov Khanin who stated, "Environmental problems are social problems and they require political answers."
