SHATIL’s Russian Language Media Activism: A New Blog and a New Course
March 3, 2008
SHATIL has launched a Russian language blog featuring daily updates on SHATIL and other social change activism. Approximately 500 users log on daily. The blog, hosted on LiveJournal, also features talkbacks and discussions of social issues affecting Israeli immigrants from the Former Soviet Union (FSU).

Ilanit Edri, Shatil media consultant, and Evgeny Zadiran, Shatil Russian Media consultant addressing the workshop.
In addition to a new SHATIL presence in Russian newspapers, websites and television and radio stations, SHATIL is training FSU immigrant organizations in accessing the media most relevant to them. The first day-long workshop on the Russian language media as a tool for influencing social change took place on February 28. Seventeen participants representing 12 immigrant organizations learned about using the media as part of an organizational strategy and took part in practical how-to sessions on writing press releases and articles. A panel of five Russian language journalists discussed how to use the media to advance social causes, including how to interest journalists in an organization's work and issues.
