NIF’s Soccer Campaign Reports Fall in Racism at Most Premier League Clubs  
June 11, 2010

As the nations of the world gather together in South Africa for the World Cup, NIF’s campaign to reduce racism in Israeli society through soccer - Kick Racism Out of Israeli Soccer - has reported its results for the 2009/10 season. Most encouraging was a 175 percent increase of educational activities by the clubs themselves this past season, and a 32 percent increase in fans condemning the racist behavior of fellow fans. Read>

Free Dental Treatment for Israeli Children  
June 11, 2010

Earlier this week the Knesset’s Labor, Welfare and Health Committee approved the introduction of free dental treatment for all Israeli children up to 8 years old starting July 1st. The measure was a victory for the Coalition for Public Dental Health, of which veteran NIF grantees Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) and Physicians for Human Rights are members. This provision will be added to the “basket” of health services provided by the government through the Health Funds. Read>

Gay Father Allowed Home to Israel with His Twins  
May 27, 2010

Dan Goldberg is set to return home to Jerusalem in the coming days with his newborn twins Itai and Liron. Goldberg, a gay man, has been fighting a legal battle with Israel's authorities since the babies were born two months ago. Goldberg is represented by NIF grantee New Family: Organization for Family Rights. Read>

El Al Ordered to Compensate Israeli Arabs for Humiliation  
April 15, 2010

The Haifa District Court has ordered El Al to pay two Israeli Arabs $4,000 each in compensation for the humiliation they suffered last year at the hands of one of the airline’s security guards. Read>

Drying Stream to Flow Again in Northern Israel  
April 15, 2010

Intensive pressure by SHATIL and two partner environmental organizations has resulted in government action that will restore and protect a damaged stream in northern Israel. The Ein Hazahav (Golden Spring) stream is now virtually dried up. The stream has long been a landmark of Kiryat Shmona, flowing through the northern border town. But due to poor planning policies and the siphoning of water by the Neviot Water Company, substantial ecological damage has been inflicted. Read>

Court Rules That Bedouin Village Must Be Connected to Sewage Infrastructure  
March 17, 2010

The Be’er Sheva District Court has ruled that the recognized Bedouin village of Keseifa near Arad must be connected to a sewage infrastructure. The ruling was handed down following an administrative petition by Israel Union for Environmental Defense (IUED), which is supported by NIF through the Green Environment Fund (GEF). Read>

Ending Segregation on the West Bank’s Roads  
January 6, 2010

brahim Samara’s business repairing window blinds was dealt a devastating blow in 2002 when the Israeli army decided to prohibit West Bank Palestinians from using Route 443 between Jerusalem and the growing city of Modiin. The 42 year-old resident of the village Beit Ur Al Fauqa, which is adjacent to the highway he cannot use, is one of 55,000 Palestinians living in villages near the highway whose lives have been blighted by the ban. Israel’s First-Ever Human Rights March Attracts Thousands of Supporters  
December 15, 2009

Last Friday more than 100 Israeli social change organizations, many of them NIF grantees, and thousands of individuals, joined flagship NIF grantee Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) for the first-ever human rights march held in Israel. The event, which marked International Human Rights Day, was funded with a special grant from NIF and logistical assistance from SHATIL. Read>

High Court of Justice Rules against Segregated West Bank Road 
November 18, 2009

Israel’s High Court of Justice has ruled against a military order preventing Palestinians from driving on a highway in the South Hebron Hills in the West Bank. The petition was presented on behalf of 22 Palestinian villages by flagship NIF grantee Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI). Read>
