Multi-Cultural Artists Defy Racial Stereotypes

NIF staged a unique multi-cultural event in Jerusalem which brought together standup comics from all walks of Israeli life and an audience of more than 1,000 from all the city's population groups – Jew and Arab, secular and Orthodox, Mizrachi and Ashkenazi, new immigrants and veteran Israelis, heterosexuals and LGBT individuals. The performers included Israel Campbell, an American-born Orthodox Jew from Los Angeles; Nurman Isa, an Arab from Jaffa ; and Ethiopian new immigrant Shmuel Bero. Most of the artists put humor into the hardships of life and provided a rare opportunity to hear the full spectrum of views from Israel's "other" communities and individuals.
