SHATIL Director Rachel Liel Recognized as Force for the Greater Good

|

SHATIL received a special New Year’s gift from The Marker, Ha’aretz newspaper’s widely read business magazine. In its annual special issue highlighting Israel’s 100 most influential people, SHATIL Director Rachel Liel was featured as one of seven Israelis who “influence for the greater good.”

This marks the third year that Rachel has been publicly recognized for her outstanding leadership.  Two years ago, Globes, Israel's leading business daily, chose her as one of Israel's 50 most influential leaders and in January, The Marker named her as one of 40 Israeli women making the most significant contributions to Israeli society.  This week, the magazine again recognizes her – and SHATIL's – achievements. The Marker chose to lead its feature on the seven people "who influence our quality of life in the deepest sense."  Rachel was the only woman in the group.

The article notes: "In her work, she is guided by the world view that true democracy stems from strengthening weakened groups. That's why SHATIL tries to bring about systemic change..."

The article highlights SHATIL's Bedouin women's empowerment project and the new SHATIL office in Rosh Pina that opened after the war to strengthen grassroots social change groups in Israel's Northern periphery.

Rachel was characteristically modest about the honor: “It’s a nice gift for SHATIL’s 25th anniversary.”
