Gaza Textile Workers Receive Compensation from Former Israeli Employers

Three Gaza textile workers have received compensation from their former Israeli employers following the intervention of NIF grantee Sot El-Amel – Laboror's Voice. The three women worked for many years in an Israeli textile factory in the Erez Industrial Zone on the border between Israel and Gaza. But they were unable to continue working there when the Gaza strip was sealed off in April 2004.

In December 2008, Sot El-Amel, which promotes the rights of Arab workers and the unemployed, took up the case of 100 textile workers from Gaza who have been unable to work for Israeli companies since 2004. Sot El-Amal's lawyers have been negotiating severance pay and compensation entitled by Israeli law directly with former employers and through the Israeli courts.

Last week a group of former employees were presented with checks in a special ceremony in Gaza.
