Ronn Torossian’s op-ed “Anti-Israel marchers in the Celebrate Israel Parade” is a comedy of errors.

The article is riddled with falsehoods and misinformation. The New Israel Fund is a proudly progressive organization that backs Israelis working for human rights, social justice, and religious freedom. Our 35-year history testifies to our support for Israel’s founders’ vision of a liberal democracy, as well as for equality and justice for all Israelis.

The motives of those who attack us aren’t hard to discern. NIF opposes the occupation and West Bank settlements and favors the two-state solution. The human rights groups we support hold a mirror up to the ugliness of that occupation and threaten the narrative of Israel’s ultra-nationalists and radical settlers.

Torossian claims that our alleged support for the global Boycott Divestment Sanctions movement and bringing Israeli soldiers to trial in foreign courts should preclude NIF from marching in New York’s annual Celebrate Israel Parade. However, our opposition to both positions is clear and unequivocal.

For millions of American Jews who want an Israel that reflects its founders’ values, there is simply no other choice for Israel but democracy, equality and self-determination for both Jews and Palestinians. In the meantime, see you at the parade.
