Tag Meir Visits Jaljulia to Comfort Residents After Attack

12 March 2015

Last week, dozens of activists with the NIF-convened Tag Meir coalition descended on Jaljulia, an Arab town in in central Israel, to show support for residents who had their cars vandalized the week before in another ugly Price Tag attack.

The tires of nineteen cars in the village had been slashed and the perpetrators wrote “God is King” in Hebrew graffiti on nearby walls. In response, Tag Meir activists came from around the country to embrace the victims and show solidarity with their fellow Israelis.

The head of the local council, Faik Odeh, said, “It pains us that until now we have not heard a condemnation or apology from the mouth of the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or from the Interior Minister or the Minister of Public Security. What consoles us is the support of our Jewish neighbors from the surrounding towns. Everyone condemned this action.”

Tag Meir Director Dr. Gadi Gvaryahu said, “The Prime Minister demands from the Palestinians to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, but a country that again and again tolerates attacks on innocent Arabs is not a Jewish state and is not a lawful state.”

Tag Meir also visited another village this week after 48 olive trees were uprooted there by right-wing extremists, and are planning to return on Sunday with a group of artists to put on a performance for the children of the village.

Tag Meir is a grassroots organization founded in 2011 that works against racism in Israel.
