Ahead of next week’s election, NIF grantee the Social Guard released a report on the 19th Knesset, summing up the different parties’ action – or inaction- on social causes.

According to the report (in Hebrew), which analyzed 425 different proposed laws, the Labor party and Yesh Atid were the most frequent participants in votes on social issues, but Hatnua ranked first overall for the promotion of social causes within the governing coalition and Meretz ranked first from outside of it.

The report also ranked individual Knesset members on their diligence and commitment to social reform.

“The main purpose of this report,” the Social Guard wrote, “is to present the huge gap between the promises of the 20th Knesset candidates versus how they operated in the 19th Knesset.”

The Social Guard presents its Knesset scorecard at the conclusion of each new Knesset’s term, checking on the voting patterns of each member and the social welfare laws he or she proposed or supported.

The Social Guard was launched following the 2011 social justice protests in order to maintain a constant civic presence in the Knesset, monitor the MKs’ work, and inform the public about Knesset discussion on social justice and equality in Israel.
