The New Israel Fund and SHATIL announce the availability of 10-month fellowships with stipend in Israel, each at an organization working to advance social justice and democracy. Each fellowship is designed to enable a talented and committed Jewish professional or recent graduate to spend a year contributing to social justice while experiencing Israel first-hand.

About the Social Justice Fellowships
The Social Justice Fellowship (SJF) was created by friends and family of Nomi Fein in order to honor her memory by enabling committed individuals to have an in-depth learning experience and to contribute their talents towards furthering social justice in Israel. In 2001, friends of Rabbi Richard J. Israel created an additional fellowship to honor his social and Jewish values in Israel (read more about Nomi Fein and Rabbi J. Israel). Each fellow will concentrate his/her fellowship in one of the following areas: safeguarding civil and human rights, pursuing environmental justice, promoting Jewish-Arab equality, advancing the status of women, fostering tolerance and religious pluralism, or bridging social and economic gaps. The fellow will intern 32 hours a week at an Israeli non-profit organization, and will be provided with a stipend of $12,000. Each fellowship begins in September-October 2008.

The fellows will receive ongoing support from a staff member at SHATIL. However, fellows are responsible for securing their own housing and health insurance.
