Over these last 50 years, as the Israeli military rule in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza has become more and more entrenched, we often wonder why Israelis did not rise up against it en masse. Groups like B’Tselem were founded with the assumption that if Israelis were exposed to what was happening just a few miles away, over the Green Line, they would immediately take action against it. This hasn’t happened.
Join this event with media expert Noam Sheizaf to explore Israeli public discourse around the occupation over the decades. Where did the media fail to understand or portray the conflict, and how did it lead us here?
Noam Sheizaf is an expert on journalism and media discourse in Israel. Noam was the founding editor of +972 Magazine and consults for The Whistle, a new citizen’s media watchdog group.
