POSITION DESCRIPTION:
NIF seeks an engaging, passionate, and focused individual to join the New York team as Development and Program Officer. The Development and Program Officer will steward a robust file of donors, including major donors, oversees regional in-person and zoom events, and work closely with colleagues to grow the NIF base of support in the Tri-State region. This position reports to the Senior Director of NIF in the region, helps supervise the NY/Tri-State Development Associate, and works closely with NIF staff across the country.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising:
Work closely as a part of the NY/Tri-State team to help to grow NIF’s annual campaign by stewarding, cultivating, and soliciting a robust file of supporters.

  • Cultivate, solicit, thank, and steward a file of donors and prospects, focusing on new donors, returned lapsed donors, and other donors who give or can give between $2,500-$15,000 or above. Work includes donor meetings and calls, editing written materials, sending personalized invitations to events, and cultivating major donor prospects.
  • Serve as a lead fundraiser for geographic catchment areas and other affinity groups within the region, including Westchester County, Brooklyn, and Connecticut.
  • Maintain accurate records and files of work performed and donor communications.
  • Review and finalize proposals and reports for donors, foundations, and prospects in collaboration with the Senior Director and the Grants Editor & Coordinator.
  • Manage and implement strategy for unstewarded donors $1000-$2500, including communication and events, in close collaboration with Senior Director
  • Help oversee NY Development Associate in supporting this work.

Programming & Public Presence:
Serve as lead staff in planning and execution of local in person and zoom programs.

  • Initiate, plan, and manage public events, parlor meetings, and zoom and hybrid programs serving in the Tri-State area (as many as 30 per year), including communications, preparations and follow-up with constituents and supporters
  • Develop the calendar and framing for programs in the NY/Tri-State region in close partnership with the regional team, NIF’s Public Engagement department, and ad hoc program teams
  • Communicate with grantees, Israeli staff and other potential speakers and visitors in collaboration with Public Engagement department
  • Perform goal-setting and evaluation of programs vis-à-vis regional and national development and public engagement strategies
  • Oversee program-related communications (including email blasts, social media marketing, on-site materials and follow-up)
  • Oversee wealth screening of event registrants and participants.
  • Work with program partners on collaborative programs, such as Other Israel Film Festival
  • Steward donor relationships and cultivation as related to programming
    • Work with NY team to develop strategy for targeted programming based on geographic catchment areas
    • Help oversee program intern(s) as needed
  • Serve as lead staff for public programs and parlor meetings in identified geographic catchment areas.
  • Cultivate relationships and partnerships with rabbis, synagogues and relevant Jewish organizations in designated geographic regions
  • Represent NIF in the community and respond to community requests locally with Israel and Jewish community groups and/or events where donors and potential donors are present. This includes speaking publicly on behalf of NIF.
  • Communicate persuasively about the New Israel Fund, its policies, values, history, key stakeholders, programs, and finances in the context of parlor meetings and general donor servicing.

Leadership Development:
Participate in strategy and meetings of NY/Tri-State Regional Council, a non-governance regional leadership group, in collaboration with Senior Regional Director and NY/Tri-State team, under leadership of Associate Director

  • Cultivate donors who are a part of the Regional Council and consider donors to invite into this group
  • Maintaining active engagement with this group.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Compelling interpersonal and group facilitation skills as well as ability to connect easily and sincerely with others
  • Minimum 3 years relevant fundraising experience
  • Comfort speaking publicly to small and mid-sized groups
  • Ability to work quickly and skillfully, prioritizing effectively between urgent and important tasks
  • Familiarity with socio-economic and political realities at play in Israel and the Occupied Territories
  • Ability to serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for NIF
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Every Action or other CRM system, and iWave or other prospect research system a plus
  • Medium to large scale program or event planning experience
  • Past experience working or volunteering in Israel
  • Masters Degree preferred
  • Position requires some management of others; previous experience a plus

SALARY AND COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $70,000 – $80,000 annually based on skills and experience.
