ORGANIZATION & POSITION SUMMARY
New Israel Fund (NIF) is the premier organization working to build up the progressive movement and fight for democracy in Israel. We are a partnership organization that mobilizes support globally, primarily in the U.S., to support several hundred non-profits working across issues in Israel. For the Director of Digital Strategy, these responsibilities mean building and maintaining the right infrastructure to reach our growing audience of Americans, to enhance our stellar online fundraising program, and more. The director will be in the driver’s seat of our organization’s entire online strategy and be a significant contributor to NIF’s organizing, brand-building, and fundraising strategy.

PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Director of Digital Strategy is an integral member of NIF’s Public Engagement team and an essential thought leader at NIF, responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing NIF’s online programs while serving as a significant contributor to NIF’s overall organizing, brand-building, and fundraising strategy.

We’re looking for a solutions-oriented, flexible thinker with fluency in digital tools, analytics and social media, a working understanding of NIF’s work and content, and great writing skills. Your experience as a leader on a digital or communications team at a non-profit, agency, or political campaign, means you know the path to victory isn’t always a straight line and requires long-term thinking and you’re excited for the challenge.

The Director has responsibility over our digital systems and infrastructure, analytics and testing, and digital engagement and fundraising strategies. They will be the primary person responsible for setting and achieving bold goals aimed at growing and deepening the engagement of NIF’s supporters. The Director must be able to dream big and shape the program to support those goals.

The Director of Digital Strategy reports to the VP for Public Engagement and supervises the Digital Media Associate and Digital Communications Associate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage NIF’s online fundraising program in coordination with the development team, setting ambitious year-round goals and building a program to achieve them
  • Support regional fundraising staff in their efforts to engage, cultivate, and solicit donors
  • Identify and pursue digital engagement opportunities that grow our follower and donor list and help supporters deepen their connection to NIF’s work
  • Manage NIF’s website and a small constellation of microsites with occasional content updates
  • Collaborate with outside developers, when necessary, to build new site features and fix bugs
  • Serve as chief administrator on NIF’s EveryAction database, collaborating with the Development Operations team to manage the organization’s data
  • Develop and implement a robust testing plan across NIF’s digital channels; Leverage analytics and reporting to make informed decisions
  • Drive strategy for NIF’s social media accounts
  • Collaborate across the Public Engagement team as well as NIF’s international affiliates and Israel team to develop compelling content that brings more people into our work
  • Supervise NIF’s Digital Media Associate and Digital Communications Associate, helping them manage their work and grow in their roles
  • Identify trends in the digital and communications worlds that are relevant for NIF’s work and spot opportunities for NIF to test and adapt these for our purposes
  • Cultivate a culture of testing and experimentation within the Public Engagement team and across NIF
  • Advise other departments, including the Development team, on creative opportunities for engaging and soliciting supporters
  • Manage NIF’s young digital advertising program, using Facebook and Google ads to amplify our message, recruit more supporters, and raise funds
  • Train NIF staff on using new and existing tools and systems for email and other digital outreach tools
  • Serve as primary author of national emails including engagement and fundraising emails; Assist with other writing, storytelling, and content creation for the Public Engagement team

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 4+ years serving in a digital communications or online fundraising role at a non-profit, campaign, or agency; Leadership experience within a digital or communications department is a plus
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple moving projects with different levels of urgency and collaboration
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience working on issues related to social justice, democracy, human rights, or religious pluralism ideally at a similar non-profit organization
  • Familiarity with the content and context of NIF’s work in Israel and in the United States is a plus
  • Demonstrated project management and tech implementation experience
  • Expert digital and online organizing skills; you don’t need to be an expert coder, but you are easily a super-user for most CRMs and basic web platforms
  • Working familiarity with Facebook Ads Manager, Google AdWords, or both
  • Experience with social media, especially Facebook and Twitter
  • Basic HTML coding preferred
  • Problem-solving approach to work
  • Experience working in a fundraising environment or with donors as stakeholders is a plus
  • Hebrew/Arabic language skills are a plus
  • This is job is based in NYC, but applicants can work remotely until NIF reopens its offices

REPORTING & SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
The Director of Digital Strategy reports to the VP for Public Engagement and supervises the Digital Media Associate and Digital Communications Associate.

SALARY AND COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $80K – 90K+ USD annually. Additionally, NIF offers a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision insurance; flex spending; retirement match; life insurance; disability; paid holidays (Jewish and secular); sick leave.
