NIF Film Club: Ma’abarot

9 December 2020

Ma’abarot tells the story of the Israeli transit camps in the 1950s, which housed hundreds of thousands of new immigrants from different parts of the world, transitioning them into becoming part of the Israeli cultural tapestry. The film unravels multiple stories of the camp residents including Yemenite, Mizrahi, and Balkan children who were taken from their families by the state and given up to Ashkenazi families looking to adopt.

NIF Film Club discussed this film with NIF’s VP of Public Engagement Libby Lenkinski and director Dina Zvi-Riklis and producer Arik Bernstein, as part of the 2020 Other Israel Film Festival.
