Today, with the passing of Amos Oz, Israel lost one of its most articulate champions for peace and liberal democracy. Here is what he said about the relationship between the two:
“Everything that enhances tolerance, civil rights, the recognition of rights of minorities, has a direct implication on the efforts for peace, because the opposite of progress, open-mindedness, and pluralism is, always and everywhere, fanaticism, fundamentalism, and extremism.”
Amos Oz was a hero to many. We are thankful for his service to NIF on our International Council. We mourn his loss.
