Today, in response to Secretary of State John Kerry’s speech on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Daniel Sokatch, CEO of the New Israel Fund, made the following statement:

Today Secretary of State Kerry spoke clearly about the imperative for a two state solution, emphasizing the need to realize this vision — including security measures and an end to the occupation — for the sake of Israel and for the sake of the United States.

 He articulated his fear that the two state solution may become impossible if action isn’t taken to change course, and that Israel as we know it may not survive in the context of a one state outcome.

 I welcome, within the secretary’s proposed parameters, his call for Israel to treat Arab Israelis as citizens with full equality. This is, in fact, a foundational value found in Israel’s Declaration of Independence. Equality is a bedrock of democracy. And we at NIF are committed to helping Israel realize this goal.

 His speech is one more warning sign that all of us who care about Israel must heed. The status quo is dangerous for Israel.
