In a small but profound win for refugee rights, starting this August, asylum seekers in Israel will be able to obtain a multi-ride public transport card (Rav-Kav) for their children. This discount is available to all children who are Israeli citizens. They will need to demonstrate that their children attend school and provide proof that they have a ‘study permit,’ but the Rav-Kav will provide the children with a 50% discount on fares.

NIF grantee ASSAF – Aid Organization for Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Israel and its partners have been campaigning for years for this basic right for the children of refugees and asylum seekers. ASSAF will closely monitor that the children are indeed issued their Rav-Kav cards.
