Internationally acclaimed author Amos Oz and other prominent Israeli public figures including Nobel Prize Chemistry winner Prof. Aaron Ciechanover have joined NIF’s International Council (IC) in Israel. The New Israel Fund’s International Council is an advisory group established to supplement the work of the organization’s governing Board. The IC sustains involvement of past Board members and educates, motivates, and nurtures future leadership for NIF.

Recruited by NIF board member, IC co-chair and respected attorney Talia Sasson, Oz and Ciechanover are part of a new contingent who join NIF in the front lines of defending democracy and equality in Israel. Other new members include former Attorney General Adv. Michael Ben Yair, writer Roni Somekh, theater director Doron Tzabari, former head of the Civil Administration Brigadier-General (res.) Ilan Paz, and former Knesset Speaker Avram Burg.

“They asked me to join and I saw no reason to refuse. I want to help them,” Oz told Haaretz.

The International Council now includes 172 members, including prominent community leaders in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia and Switzerland.
