Donor Profile: Hadass Kaufmann

27 September 2018

Hadass Kaufmann, 75 years old and a member of NIF’s International Council from Jerusalem, has named NIF in her will as her only beneficiary. She is part of NIF’s Legacy Society.

She said, “I am worried and fearful about Israel’s future as a democratic, open, secular, and Jewish state. This stems from a deep biblical concern for others and social equality. Because I have no children, I’m leaving my estate to NIF with the intention that it can strengthen democracy in Israel. For me, that is the key to everything. It’s true that we also need to strengthen education and health but without democracy and human and civil rights we won’t have the rest. That’s my approach to life and so I’m making this donation.”

She adds, “The basis for a healthy state that can survive over time is to have citizens that take part in political processes and contribute to society. We must not leave everything to the government and politicians. They are only our representatives for a very limited period and that’s only on condition that they report to us fully and transparently about their activities.”

She is especially fond of all NIF’s grantees that work to bring Jews and Arabs closer together. Over the holidays, she wishes for Israel, “Firstly peace and a different vision and sensitivity towards others, in the neighborhood, in the home, or on the street, and assistance for the weak, the sick, the needy and those in prison and above all hope for continual improvement.”
