Thousands of Israelis rallied in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv last Saturday night in the latest in a series of Summer 2020 social protests calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign ahead of his corruption trial and criticizing the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis.
Protestors have been particularly critical of the Prime Minister Netanyahu’s lackluster response to the economic pain wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic, calling for more financial assistance.
NIF grantee Omdim Beyachad (Standing Together) said, “We will continue to go out onto the streets this summer. We are protesting because we are simply fed up. We are angry and we feel betrayed because we have no money and we have no jobs. Because we have no future and they are responsible. This government has failed in all areas. It has failed with COVID-19 and abandoned us during the economic crisis. The government is out of touch, paralyzed and shooting in all directions.”
“We are struggling for our lives while the politicians are struggling to keep their jobs. They don’t have a clue about what we need and how to cope with our problems and we have no reason to rely on them.”
