Thirty-eight human rights organizations, including many NIF grantees, submitted a petition against the government’s removal of the “reasonableness” clause. The clause allowed Israeli courts to annul administrative decisions by elected officials, including ministers. This far-right Israeli government revoked this judicial power in late July, exposing human rights to immediate and extensive damage.

“In our petition, we pointed out the harm that will be caused to those living in poverty, to Arab society, the LGBTQ+ community, Bedouin communities in the Negev, women, Ethiopians, Mizrahi, to Palestinians in the occupied territories and East Jerusalem, to migrant workers and asylum seekers, among many others,” writes the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), who are also signatories on the petition.
