Asylum Seekers March to Jerusalem

19 December 2013

A group of around 200 Sudanese asylum seekers marched to Jerusalem in an attempt to gain official recognition of their refugee statuses. Most of the marchers have been imprisoned for almost two years and none of their asylum requests – which were filed with the assistance of NIF grantee Hotline for Refugees and Migrants (previously Hotline for Migrant Workers) – have been answered. NIF grantee Israeli Children, which she established in 2009 and which was merged with flagship NIF grantee the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) last summer, played a crucial role in ensuring they could stay in the country.

16 September 2013

Following Im Tirtzu’s outrageous and personal smear campaign against the New Israel Fund and progressive organizations in Israel in 2010, a group of eight activists began a facebook page called ‘Im Tirtzu is a Fascist movement.’ Alleging that the term “fascist” constituted libel, and in an undisguised attempt to shut down criticism of their goals and activities, Im Tirtzu took the activists to court. And lost. Following the Jerusalem District Court’s ruling last week, which rejected almost all charges against the activists and which characterized Im Tirtzu as having “fascist attributes” NIF spoke to defendant Edan Ring about his reactions to the victory.
